Awards For The Cream Of The Crop

Bandar Seri Begawan - A total of 67 students from Years 8 and 9 of the Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College (MSPSBS) received certificates and gifts for their excellent academic achievements yesterday, in a ceremony held at the college auditorium.

The guest of honour, Dyg Hjh Kamlah binti Hj Daud, the Acting Director of the Examinations Department at the Ministry of Education in her speech said that, to fulfill the vision of the National Education System for the 21st Century (SPN21), teachers should observe the maximum potential of the students, and with the School Based Assessment for Learning (SBAfL), teachers would have the opportunities to evaluate and approach the students for improvements.

"Academic excellence should be combined and be balanced with the formation of personal development in order to develop a successful and prosperous nation with moral values," she said.

The school's Acting Principal, Dk Sarimah binti Pg Hj Ahmad earlier delivered the welcoming speech in which she introduced the 'i-care' and Tetris programmes fora better understanding in Additional Maths, Maths 'D' and Core Science subjects; as well as a Quadrathlon activity - a combination of Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.

The Acting Principal hoped that the programmes and activities would contribute to the excellence of the students to achieve the college's vision and mission. She also said that three primary schools received help from the Science College students as they taught some Year 6 students to achieve 5As. Two students from Sahibol Bandar Primary School in Kg Mata- 1 Mata and one student from I lj Tarif Primary, School in Kg Tamoi managed to obtain 5As while some others scored 4As.

The Acting Director of the Examination Department also handed gills and certificates to the two Gold Medal winners for the ICAS (UNSW) English Competition 2012, one Gold Medal Winner for the ICAS (UNSW) Computer Skills Competition 2012, Groupwork winners for the British University Brunei Award (BUBA) 2012 and the winner for the National Essay Writing Competitions 2012.
