Bandar Seri Begawan - In what could be the most happening day in Brunei, a dozen mobile phone applications were launched, which every Bruneian can be proud of.
'Chatworthy', developed by Bruneian app developer MeSixty, was officially launched yesterday to rave reviews with one giving it a rating of nine out of 10.
Another well-known local app developer, Infindo Technology, gave Brunei SMEs a shot in the arm with the launch of 11 apps for SMEs from retail, food and beverage, hotels and automobiles.
The development of these apps just goes to show the kind of potential Brunei has. This is not all ... there is more to come as many more apps are in development stages.
Have you ever wondered if you had stumbled upon something that was worth chatting, about or not?
With the free app for the iPhone, 'Chatworthy', which was developed by Bruneian mobile app developer 'MeSixty', you will be able to discover interesting posts from the photo-sharing social network, Instagram.
Chatworthy, which was fully released yesterday, allows users to select any location in the world and view Instagram posts that have been geotagged there, with the most relevant posts shown first.
With the app, users can share multiple posts that they consider to be "chat-worthy" with their friends and chat privately about them.
"Chatworthy is a way to discover content that surrounds any location, ranked by its 'Chatworthiness' (how likely you are to comment or talk about it)," said Keeran janin, co-founder of MeSixty. "(It's) all calculated by our proprietary algorithms ... pretty nifty stuff!"
MeSixty announced that more social networks are being added, with support for Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and Foursquare all being developed to make the already feature-rich chat even more powerful with the ability to share posts from multiple social networks in the same conversation with friends from different networks.
Posts are ranked using an algorithm which ensures that users only see the most relevant and chat-worthy. This algorithm does this by taking into account a number of factors, such as relationship with the author of the post, mutual friends and the popularity of that post.
Chatworthy also offers extra functionality beyond browsing and chatting, as the app allows you to not only follow users and like posts, but also presents comments like a public chat room, allowing you to easily comment and read other peoples' comments.
Also included is a bookmark feature that not only lets you save and check back on posts you have found but also allows you to bookmark locations to see new Instagrams posted there in the future. With this app. one can start a chat on the iPad and switch seamlessly to the iPhone.
Explaining why people should get this app. Liam Janin, Social Cartographer for MeSixtyy said: "It gives people a reason to talk. That's what we want to do. For example, you've got WhatsApp, a great messaging platform, but you need to already have something to talk about before you will use it."
"Chatworthy is designed to give people a reason to talk, and to allow them to experience their social networks in a completely new way" he added. "This app makes it easy to start a conversation."
Reviews of the app have been positive internationally with TapScape.com giving it a score of nine out of 10, saying, "Chatworthy for instagram makes an already great service even better."
The app also recently helped MeSixty become the first Bruneian company to win a Red Herring Top 100 Award - an award which recognises leading private companies from Asia.
Chatworthy for the iPhone is now available for free from the Apple App Store, while an Android version has been slated for an October release.
