ACWW Delegation Visits Brunei Darussalam

Bandar Seri Begawan - A delegation of more than 145 members of the Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW) for Southeast & Far East Asia Region yesterday made a one-day working visit to the country.

The delegation was led by KDYTM Tengku Puan Pahang Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah binti Al-Marhum Al-Mutawakkil 'Allah Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj, Area President for the ACWW for Southeast & Far East Asia Region.

The delegation visited the Royal Regalia Building in the capital and was greeted by the Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Datin Paduka Hjh Adina binti Othman. The delegation included the wife of Sarawak Head of State, Yang Berbahagia Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hjh Norkiah.

In the afternoon, the delegation continued their visit to the Arts and Handicrafts Centre in Jalan Kota Batu.

During the visit, the delegation was hosted by Brunei Women's Institute (WI). The ACWW delegation is currently attending the 10th Southeast & Far East Asia conference held in Miri, Sarawak from January 13 - 18. The conference is themed "Voice of Women Worldwide - Empowering Transformation". The delegation left for Miri, Sarawak in the evening the same day yesterday.

The one-day visit to Brunei Darussalam is part of the event listed in the conference as part of an effort to further promote Brunei Darussalam to conference delegations that comes from various countries such as from West Malaysia, Sarawak, South Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, UK, Canada and South Africa.

The highlight of the visit will be the tree planting ceremony in Miri by President of ACWW for Southeast & Far East Region, YAB the wife of Sarawak Head of State and President of ACWW. The programme ended with group photo before heading to Miri, Sarawak.

The ACWW is the largest international organisation for rural women, with a membership of nine million in over 70 countries.
