Bandar Seri Begawan - Some pre-school classrooms next year will receive 27 energetic and dynamic 'A Level students who have expressed their interest in volunteering as teaching assistants in the Brunei-Muara District.
While waiting for the release of their results, these students - who are from the Science. College and the Meragang Sixth Form Centre - will commence their attachments from January 3 until June.
A briefing on roles and responsibilities associated with being a teacher's assistant was conducted at the Ministry of Education yesterday by the head of the Early Childhood Care and Education Unit, Datin Dr Hajah Asmah binti Haji Morni. In her briefing, she emphasised the importance of working creatively and independently, while being proactive in carrying out their supporting role as assistants. The briefing was aimed at preparing the volunteers to work with young children, with emphasis on stimulating their interest in learning cognitively and socially. The students were also introduced to the pre-school curriculum and a play-based pedagogical approach to working with children effectively.
The first-hand exposure will hopefully attract these students more towards the field of education and teaching as a potential career path.
The Early Childhood Care and Education Unit welcomes more student volunteers from other sixth form centres and interested individuals can contact the unit at 2383503, or 8639459 (Ms Susie Tahir).
