919 Take Part In Charity Cycling Expedition And Run

Bandar Seri Begawan - Nine hundred and nineteen people took part in a charity cycling expedition and run last night, to aid the fire victims of Kg Setia 'A', starting and finishing at Dermaga Diraja Bandar Seri Begawan.

The event's guests of honour were YB Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Hazair bin Hj Abdullah, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, and YB Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awg Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Awg Othman, the Minister of Home Affairs.

Also in attendance were Pehin Datti Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awg Halbi bin Hj Md Yussof, the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, as well as senior officials from the two aforementioned ministries.

A total of $9,190 was collected from registration fees and will be channelled to the fund for the fire victims of Kg Setia A. The event was organised by the Youth and Sports Department in cooperation with the Brunei-Muara District Office.

To commence the event, a briefing on the importance of fire extinguishers was presented by Rozita binti Mohd Khamis from the Fire and Rescue Department.

A total of 121 cyclists took part in the 18.2km charity cycling expedition, which was sounded off by the Minister of Home Affairs, and 798 people took part in the 5km charity run, which was sounded off by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.

Besides the charity cycling expedition and run, a charity Zumba was recently held to raise funds for the fire victims, while an upcoming charity futsal event will also be held from April 12 to 14 at the Indoor Stadium.

Members of the public who would like to compete in the charity futsal can obtain registration forms from the NFABD House or the Department of Youth and Sports on the sixth floor of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. The forms can also be obtained from the Youth and Sports Centre in all four districts.
