35-Year-Old Sentenced For Forgery

Bandar Seri Begawan - A thirty-five-year-old local woman was sentenced to jail for four years and fined $6,000 or six months additional imprisonment in default after pleading guilty to six charges of forging bank clearance letters and using them as genuine letters.

Maimun Hj Omar forged bank clearance letters under other persons' names stating that the persons have no obligations in respect of any loan repayments due to the banks to cheat another bank in respect of loan applications to the tune of over $60,000 on one occasion.

Charges also state that the defendant had used these forged documents.

The offences were committed in 2002 and 2003.

Defense Counsel, Rozaiman Rahman pleads for stay of execution on the defendant's sentence to appeal against sentence.

Intermediate Court Judge, Lim Siew Yen granted the application and released the defendant on $10,000 bail or in default one local surety and other restrictions.

DPP Farhanah PD Hj Suhaili prosecuted the case.
