Kuala Belait - Twenty cartons of various brands of cigarettes and substances, suspected to be illegal drugs, were found during a recent routine check conducted at the Sungai Tujoh Border Control Post by Sungai Tujoh Customs and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officers.
The confiscated contraband goods were found in a car driven by a woman, aged 27, who is a permanent resident of Brunei, and was accompanied by a local citizen, a 30-year-old man. When questioned by the Custom and NCB officers, they said that they have nothing to declare.
However, upon inspecting the car, they found 20 cartons of cigarettes hidden below both the passenger's and driver's seats, as well as the rear compartment of their seats.
Both the driver and the passenger were brought to the Kuala Belait Customs Office for further investigation and the goods were confiscated. Both the suspects were believed to be violating Section 146 of the Excise Order 2006.
Besides the customs case, the NCB officer also found substances suspected to illegal drugs and thus, the couple were also brought to the Narcotics Control Bureau for further investigation.
Those with any information on any suspected smuggling activities can call the hotlines 8714422 or 2382422.
