Kuala Belait - Ten motorists were issued with compound fines and summons for court appearances in an operation conducted by the traffic police in Belait yesterday morning.

The roadblock was set up along Jalan Maulana Kuala Belait yesterday to check on traffic offences that include driving without a valid licence, driving with an expired road tax, not using their safety belts, possessing illegal modifications and more.

Of the 10 cases, eight motorists were caught not wearing safety belts, while one motorist was summoned for driving with an expired road tax and another for driving while using a mobile phone.

The police roadblock was carried out in a bid to reduce the rising number of road accidents in the country.
