"In our effort to close the gap between clock and the compass in our lives, many of us turn to the field of 'time management.'"

We Should Train Well Before Participating

  • PDF

I read in the media that Brunei is going to participate in AFC Challenge Cup qualifying round to be held in the Philippines from March 22 to 26, 2013. Four teams will be in Brunei group including Timor Leste and Philippines. However I came to understand that the team has not been formed yet. (Which is normal for us - well known for last minute preparation - when we lose the excuse is always that "We only trained for two months and we haven't had much exposure).

Time is running out. (Time and tide waits for no man).

Whoever is responsible for forming and training the team (KKBS or NFABD) should work together.

NFABD as the 'body' responsible for all football matters must overcome it.

A high-powered management committee should be formed comprising NFABD, Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports (MCYS), JIBS and Fas should be formed to manage the team etc.

There may be lot of potential players who can be selected for the national team.I hope we have a long term plan and not think of one game only.

It is better to have a second or third team to be used on other competitions e.g. SEA Games Under 23, AFF and AFC Under 19,16 and 14 as well as Under 18 for Asian Schools.

We should not practise the habit of preparing a team in the last minute. Each category should have its own management team headed by a manager from the various Fas and clubs which are affiliated to NFABD.

KKBS should provide qualified and professional coaches, if possible, include also local qualified coaches (former national players) and of course should be given some honorarium and other supporting staff and training and playing facilities and equipments.

Players who are already selected and under training should be given an incentive in terms of some reasonable allowances.

Football is already like a profession. The days of volunteerism seems no more. Players expect money to pay for expenses such as petrol for their cars (those who own cars themselves) and other necessities. The most important thing is `the welfare of players' should also be taken into account. Lastly we hope MCYS should be fully involved and committed to ensure that the teams are well trained to achieve success during participation of any regional and international tournaments to make Brunei feel proud and happy.
