Thought of the Day:
"For many of us, there's a gap between the compass and the clock-between what's deeply important to us and the way we spend our time."

Trailers Have Destroyed The Road In Simpang 201

  • PDF

We would like to urge the relevant authority to come and look at the road condition at Simpang 201 along Jalan Jerudong. The road is badly damaged by the trailers always carrying full load of containers passing in and out of the simpang almost every day.

The damaged road has become a serious hazard for the residents in Simpang 201. It also poses a great danger to the children and their parents when the parents drop and fetch their children from a kindergarten that is situated in the simpang.

Furthermore, the uneven bumpy road surface is also causing damages to the undercarriage and .absorbers of our vehicles. One of my friends told me that whenever she drops and fetches her child from the kindergarten, her car's undercarriage would be scratched every time and she is worried that one day some parts will come apart from beneath her car. Who will pay for the repair if it happens, she asked.

That raises a few questions. We are wondering why the trailers loaded with containers are allowed to make deliveries to the simpang that is a residential area. Why shophouses are allowed to be used as warehouses and stores? Aren't these shophouses meant only for retailing businesses and offices?

We understand that goods need to be kept and stored in the shops for stock replenishment, but that doesn't mean the business operators can behave ignorantly by getting the trailers to deliver their load of containers to their shops without giving considerations to the safety of other road users.

Mind you, it's common sense that the roads in most simpangs are not built to sustain the frequent use of heavy vehicles including trailers, besides, most simpangs are residential like our simpang 201, which also has a kindergarten.

We suggest business operators have their containers of goods stored in proper warehouses or stores at the many industrial warehouses located throughout the country. These are light industrial areas specially built to cater for the trailers and other heavy vehicles. By doing so, our lives and properties, especially the safety of our children, will not be at the risk of these behemoths that threaten us every day.
