While the rest of Bruneian students have received/ been granted their government scholarship, we (part of UBD students) are still waiting although the final semester exam is coming up in a week's time.
We have approached different administrations but there were no definite answers to reassure us. "Keep calm and just wait for the call" is what we heard from one of the admin staff in UBD, seemingly uninterested to offer their help to clear our doubts and concerns.
The problems are:
(1) What are the consequences if it happens to be that we are not in the scholarship list, unlike the rest of the UBD students who have been granted their scholarship long time ago?
(2) Are these admin staff not bothered to help us and find out the cause of the delay? Will they be able to tell us why and what is happening, so we will be reassured or might as well find other institution/find a stable job, just in case if the scholarship is not granted?
Or is it because we applied to UBD "internally" through forms and not through HECAS? We are assuming/saying this because the other UBD students who applied through HECAS, their scholarship's name lists were already released a couple of months ago.
Another concern is scholarship also means receiving monthly allowance. Some of our parents are no longer/not working and some of us live in the hostel. It is really shameful to ask for money from the parents for hostel rental, petrol, for projects and for printing assignments.
Yes, we are thankful that we do not have to pay for school fees etc, we are thankful to live in such a blessed country, but to still ask for financial support from the family instead of financially helping them at this age is painful.
We do not know who else to ask for help and answers. I hope this letter will get the responsible administration's attention. With all respect, please help us.
