We would like to refer to the article in Borneo Bulletin, dated Oct 24, 2012, in the Opinion column regarding "Father not allowed in ultrasound room" written by Disappointed Father-to-be.
The Maternal and Child Health Division has a policy of allowing husbands to enter the ultrasound room, provided a request is made beforehand. Our healthcare workers are all aware of this policy and as such no refusal should have occurred.
However, husbands will only be allowed to enter the room after the ultrasound examination has been completed and the doctor has finished documenting the findings. This is to ensure that the doctors will be able to carry out a thorough ultrasound examination without too many distractions or interruptions. Once the examination is completed, the husband will be invited into the room and both parents will then be shown an ultrasound image of their unborn baby.
The Maternal and Child Health Division deeply regrets the incident and will do our utmost to ensure that it will not happen again.
We invite any concerns and feedback be directed to our Public Relations Officer at the Quality and Productivity Management Division, Level 1, Administrative Floor, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital or at extension 1534/1134/1212.
