Kuala Lumpur (October 20, 1962) - The Ministry of Education has blamed wealthy parents for encouraging private tuition for their children and thus helping to lower teaching standards in schools.
It warned that the standard of teaching would drop considerably if teachers continued to give private tuition.
"If some of the pupils in a class have private tuition and some do not, then that class will not be balanced and therefore, it will result in a drop in the standard of the school," added the Ministry.
"These teachers should know that it is an offence to give tuition without the permission of the authorities. If parents were to cooperate with us, we are confident that no teacher would in future give any tuition," it added.
