I'm a Bruneian yet, I don't know my own country, I haven't explored all the treasure troves that are hidden away from prying eyes. I've been to some tough spots, hiked over steep hills and deep ravines just to reach a waterfall hidden in the deep tropical jungles in Belait and in the Brunei-Muara Districts.

I've been to all the beaches that Brunei has to offer: Serasa, Meragang, Muara, Jerudong, Tungku, Seri Kenangan, Lumut and KB just to name a few. So when some friends invited me to go to the Telisai Beach I was dumbfounded. At first I though it was connected to the Seri Kenangan Beach at the very edge of Kuala Tutong. I couldn't have been more wrong.

I thought that there was only one beach in Tutong - the Seri Kenaangan Beach in Sengkarai. There are a few more beaches in Tutong, some secluded and small while the one I was invited to was right next to the Telisai Recreational Park.

If you've never been in Kampong Danau, you'll probably miss the beach all together. There is no signage from the main road indicating where the recreational park is, and even when you're on the right road, you'll still probably miss the turn into the park. Why? Well because the big watermelon and the signboard indicating where the park is blended so well with the overgrown trees and bushes that the junction is easy to miss, and first-time visitors like myself, will drive until the road ends at the edge of Kampong Danau Village.

It's no wonder that the beach remains secluded and there are only a handful of visitors, even on a Sunday. There's not even a vendor in sight because of the lack of visitors.

Now the park is perfect for family gatherings and outings. The area is cozy and contained. An excellent place for children to run around on the grass. The beach is sandy white, with no hint of pollution being washed up on shore. The parking space is quaint and smaller than most of the beaches in Brunei, where only a handful of cars can fit into the small spaces.

The park and beach is a breath of fresh air. What makes the park special is the proximity to the beach and that the park is done up beautifully for visitors to enjoy. The seclusion of the beach is also what makes it special, ironically however, it is also one of the reasons why the park is not well known to even the citizens of the nation.

If you're ever thinking of a nice quiet family day out, away from the hustle and bustle of city life, away from the noisy crowded beaches and parks, give this recreational park a try. Brunei is known for its troves of hidden treasures and this particular treasure is one to share.
