Bandar Seri Begawan - The 6th Borneo Amateur Radio Festival, featuring some 300 amateur radio operators drew to a close last night in a ceremony held at Asma Hotel, Jerudong.
The festival had featured several competitions involving tests on Morse Code, general and technical knowledge.
It was jointly organised by the Brunei Darussalam Amateur Radio Association (Bdara) and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports with Yang Amat Mulia Pg Anak Hj Abdul Wadood Bolkiah Pg Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pg Anak Hj Abdul Aziz as the guest of honour.
In his speech, Pg Hj Salleh Ab Rahman, president of Bdara said that the festival had received an encouraging turnout by the participating amateur radio operators.
He added that with continued efforts and interests from the operators of the amateur radio scene would prevail through all the challenges it faces.
Pg Hj Salleh also expressed his gratitude to all participating parties from Borneo, the organising committee and all the amateur radio societies for making the 6th Borneo Amateur Radio Festival a success.
The president added that such cooperation must continue in ensuring future festivals and get-togethers.
Pg Hj Salleh also reminded the radio amateur enthusiasts of the unique opportunity to share and exchange their experiences while keeping in line and up to date with ethics and technology.
Pg Hj Salleh's speech was followed by the presentation of prizes to contest winners. Participants and guests were then invited to dine whilst a lucky draw was held exclusively for the festival participants.
The festival, held every two years was initially founded by several amateur radio operators from Kalimantan, Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam who shared the same view on having an organised assembly to strengthen friendly ties between operators, as stated in a press release issued by Bdara.
The next festival in 2012 will be held in Kuching, Sarawak, and the eighth festival in 2014 in Sabah, Malaysia.
As part of the organised festival programme, the participants were treated to a vast variety of activities, contests and competitions, tours and food and beverages. To cover the cost of management, tours and feasts, each festival-goer had to pay a registration fee of $100. -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
