Call For Continuous Effort To Upgrade Public Service Performance

Bandar Seri Begawan - Participants taking part in the Executive Development Programme will be able to learn various aspects of leadership and management in the effort to create senior government officers who are knowledgeable, exemplary leadership quality, presentable, skillful and capable.
The Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Awg Sa Bali Hj Abas touched on this matter at the opening ceremony of the 14th Executive Development Programme for Senior Government Officers.
He said the success of the programme were evaluated from the capability to produce administrators, managers and more importantly public service leaders who possess integrity, authority and are passionate towards continuous efforts in upgrading the public service performance in order to be more complex, competitive due to globalisation and the increasing expectations of customers.
Raising the question ofwhy organizations need good leaders, the Permanent Secretary highlighted on the titah delivered by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam in showcasing the important roles of civil service and their leaders.
The quality of the public service depends on the quality of the leaders who is able to lead and instil changes to the organisation.
In the context of the Civil Services in the country, where government agencies are still the majority main provider for various services including basic services, there are still issues that needs solutions, upgrading to be thought and implemented thus it is hoped that new ideas contained in the programme will help to equip the participants with various expertise needed apart from helping to produce civil services' leaders with great minds that will in turn help to quicken the creation of a civil service, which is truly efficient, effective, dynamic, innovative, highly disciplined with the highest standard of integrity, action oriented, people oriented and customer driven. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
