Bandar Seri Begawan - The Brunei Darussalam Library Association (BLA) began its first few series of customised library courses, according to a press release. The four-day `Cataloguing and Indexing' course, held at the SEAMED VOCTECH Centre in Gadong, is attended by several librarians from the Ministry of Health, Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and the Kg Tanjong Maya Secondary School.
The aim of organising these short courses is mainly to address the needs of library training in various areas that are much needed by librarians and information officers in order to maintain and upgrade the quality of library services and resource centres in the country. A library officer from the Language and Literature Bureau, Hj Abd Talip Hj Tassim, who is also a professional cataloguer, is the main facilitator for this particular programme.
The next courses on "Introduction to Library Automation" from March 23 to 25 and "Dewey Decimal Classification" from April 26 to 29 this year are still open for registration. All registered participants attending any of the BLA courses will each be given an 'Award of Recognition'.
