HM, Royal Family Members Join Maulidur Rasul Parade

Bandar Seri Begawan - His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam joined and led 18,000 of his subjects in a 4.3km walk around the capital yesterday to celebrate the 1431 Hijrah Maulidur Rasul procession marking the anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad's (Peace Be Upon Him) day of birth.
Up to 148 teams representing primary, secondary and religious schools, colleges and higher institutions, private associations, government ministries and departments, villages, mosques, prayer halls and mukim (sub-village) and village consultative councils as well as uniformed personnel, participated in the procession which was held under scorching sun and amid sweltering heat.
The monarch, who wore a black baju melayu and carried a walking stick, was accompanied during the procession by his brothers and sons: His Royal Highness Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime
Minister's Office, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, His Royal Highness Prince Sufri Bolkiah, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah, His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul 'Azim, His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen.
The Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Jawatan Luar Pekerma Raja Dato Seri Utama Dr Ustaz Hj Mohd Zain Hj Serudin greeted His Majesty upon his arrival at the Taman Sir Muda Hj Omar 'Ali Saifuddien in the capital.
This was then followed by the recital of Surah Al-Fatihah led by State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Hj Abdul Aziz
The Minister of Religious Affairs in his welcoming remarks said that the presence of His Majesty and the royal family members enlivened the celebration and showed support to the participants in observing and practising the teachings of the Prophet in his efforts to uphold and disseminate the syiar (eminence) of Islam.
He also said that the annual mass Maulidur Rasul procession should leave a positive effect on Muslims nationwide and that they needed to take examples of the Prophet's noble behaviour through regular reading of Al-Quran as the holy book speaks about his noble traits.
Prior to the procession, a Dzikir Marhaban was performed and a barrage of 21 cannon shots to mark the start of the procession around the capital.
The procession started at 9am and lasted for an hour. A doa was read by the state mufti to bless the occasion. The procession, a national event, was also held simultaneously in the three other districts namely Tutong, Belait and Temburong. -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
