Bandar Seri Begawan - "Broadcasting is not just about the production of better picture, it's actually more about programme content. The broadcasters, clients and public are becoming more and more demanding and RTB has to rise to meet the challenges."
This was said by Acting Director of Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB), Awg Hj Idris Hj Md Ali, at the closing ceremony of the Basic and Advanced Training on Cardinal Authoring Studio, held at the RTB building in Sungai Akar.
According to Awg Hj Idris, digital TV has changed the media industry, thus shaping the broadcasting and media landscape to embrace and engage the future of broadcasting business, realise the ever-increasing opportunities of IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) and expand the opportunities of TV Interactive.
"As I am aware, this training is for basic and advanced Cardinal Studio from Icareus, for RTB staff, to develop MHP (Multimedia Home Platform) application. This (the training) shows RTB's commitment towards RTB Digital strategic planning to develop interactive applications, programme related or non-programme related," he added.
The 10-day programme was participated by 15 RTB staff and facilitated by Janne Johansson, Software Engineer at Icareus Ltd, Finland as the course consultant.
The training programme was part of the continuous effort by the Training Department to upgrade the knowledge and skills of the RTB News Media personnel, where they were trained to develop self content for TV Interactive application contents such as Electronic Programme Guide (EPG), Electronic Public Information Guide (EPIG) and Electronic Game Portal (EPG).
The training was aided by iTV products to broadcast the five digital TV channels of RTB using an MHP standard environment.
"This training makes it possible for RTB to do many things in our television content. On EPIG, Information can be updated for public access 24/7 and join in with programmes, see news stories (Newstex - infuture) and check latest sports results, travel information and weather forecasts and even play games. In the future the audience can even go e-shopping and vote via the MHP set-top box," said Awg Haji Idris.
Through the training programme, viewers will be able to watch RTB channels with the convenience of interactive TV systems such as the widely popular Astro from Malaysia. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
