26 Bruneian Youths Scale Mount Pagon

Bandar Seri Begawan - A Group of 26 youths yesterday set off on an expedition to Mount Pagon, the highest peak in Brunei, as part of a programme to celebrate the country's 26th National Dap.

The "Belia Cinta Tanah Air" programme is part of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports' initiative to spur the nationalistic spirit among youths by involving them in various community and religious activities and to develop and inculcate in them leadership skills and national identity.

Comprising the team are males and females aged between 15 and 25. The four-day expedition is part of the activities that new intakes of the programme must undergo as a team.

Mount Pagon, located at the boundary between Temburong district and Limbang. Sarawak is the highest peak in Brunei at 6,070ft (1.850 metres). The group was sent off yesterday by Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Hamid Hj Mohd Jaal:ur, Permanent Secretary 11 at the Ministry of Culture. Youth and Sports. Dato Hj MOW Hamid then presented the national flag that will be planted at the peak of Mount Pagon to Hj Rantli Hi Kurus, leader of the expedition.

The participants were transported to their base camp by members of the Four Wheel Drive association and escorted by the Official Motorcycle Club of Tutong and the United Bikers Club up to the Kuala Lurah Post -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
