Chemical Fraudster On The Run

nite01_1

Kingpin behind BSP fraud said to have disappeared.

Bandar Seri Begawan - As further details of the biggest fraud in recent times involving a Brunei Shell contractor in the oil town are gradually emerging, the bizarre spectacle of a kingpin "chemical man" now on the run, is being laid bare in the Sultanate by investigators.

The fugitive is the subject of a bold "chemical reaction" allegedly involving millions of dollars that is occupying the intense interest of the investigators.

Latest information reveals the picture of a man who started his link with the oil company as a "showman" organising events and ended up getting involved in fake chemical supply records. He has now finally failed to show up.

He is understood to have fled the country in a hurry and is reported to be on the move and is said to be moving somewhere between China, Taiwan and Kota Kinabalu.

He also allegedly cleaned out millions of dollars from the company but in a hurry could not get his hands on all of it, however, sources said. He has substantial investments in East Malaysia apparently earned from his Brunei operations, especially during the past three years.

The man, a Malaysian in his 40s, started his company using a local partner about six years ago operating as an event management outfit. But later he diversified and successfully won company tenders to supply millions of dollars worth of a variety of items including chemicals.

Reaping millions in ill-gotten profits, it was the alleged fraudulent supply of chemicals that brought about the disastrous reaction that finally brought his company down.

That happened, according to sources, because checks caught up with the deceitful operations that revealed the alleged supply of expired chemicals and non-existent stock that showed up on Shell Company record.

The man is said to have disappeared from his home in the oil town soon after investigations began one morning, neighbours said. He left his staff behind who promptly continued with the work after changing the company name and using the company car and the same office apparently carrying on business as usual.-- Brudirect News
