Kuala Belait - The Immigration Department, Kuala Belait branch conducted an operation dubbed "Ops Sepadu Bungkas 191/2009" led by a Senior Immigration Officer in the Belait area last Thursday (Dec 17). Joining in the operation were officers from the Customs Preventive and Intelligence Section Belait.
Over 30 foreign nationals from Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines and Bangladesh were inspected at different locations, which resulted in seven being issued special passes and taken in for investigation and action.
Meanwhile, during a raid on foreign workers' residences in Kg Lumut, the Customs Department confiscated some white wine, for which there was allegedly no permit. The case is still under investigation.
In a separate raid conducted during the afternoon led by a Senior Immigration Officer at a eatery in Jalan Pandan Kuala Belait, an Indonesian worker was found allegedly working for another employer. The woman was issued a special pass for allegedly violating Rule 15 under Immigration Rule.
The employer was issued with a summons letter. The case is still under investigation.
In a second raid on Saturday (Dec 19), the Immigration Department, Kuala Belait branch conducted another operation - "Ops Bungkas 192 / 2009" in the Belait area.
During an inspection on a home expansion project site in Kg Mumong Kuala Belait, a 44-year-old male worker was detained and interrogated by the department.
The foreign man was found holding a visitor's pass.
The suspect was detained and brought to the department for further investigation and action.
The Immigration Department pledged to continue to conduct such inspections and reminded the public to cooperate by providing information on suspected immigration offences via its hotline 3331879/3341938 or 2383555 or 2383777 during office hours.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
