Kuala Belait - The Islamic Religious Council has given cash assistance to a family whose house went up in smoke in a fire incident which took place in Belait district on November 16 this year.
The cash assistance of $200 per person was handed over by the Acting Head Religious Officer Belait District, Pengiran Ibrahim bin Pengiran Mohd Yussof to three recipients who were victims of a fire that broke out in Kampong Sungai Kuru, Lumut.
The single-storey wooden home belonging to 76-yearold Masri bin Tampil has been ravaged in the blaze and destroyed their valuables worth over $50,000.
The elderly is currently staying with his adopted daughter, 50-year-old Hjh Noraziah binti Abdullah and her husband, 44-year old Dahary bin Deli who were also the recipients.
According to Hjh Noraziah, an electrical short-circuit was fingered as the possible cause of the fire which gutted their home which they resided since 1983. They were also not able to rescue important documents.
The family is currently staying at a relative's home in Bandar Seri Begawan. The cash assistance was presented to the fire victims yesterday morning at the Religious Affairs Office in Kuala Belait.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
