Bandar Seri Begawan - As part of an effort to give more comprehensive health services and for the comfort of the patients and the public and as a joint collaboration with the Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC), the Oncology (Cancer) Unit at the RIPAS hospital is permanently moved to JPMC starting yesterday.
The Ministry of Health said yesterday that the transfer is to provide a National Cancer Centre that is more - comprehensive as a national referral centre to treat and prevent cancer disease in the country as well as to upgrade the quality of life among cancer patients.
The one-stop cancer treatment centre could give all cancer services needed by patients currently undergoing treatment and recovery.
This is the first phase of relocation whereby all outpatient clinic services and chemotherapy are moved to JPMC.
Currently, the number of patients requiring chemotherapy reaches more than 2,000 patients.
With such a move, patients would get treatment at a wider area, which is more comfortable and patients could stay peacefully, appropriate for every cancer patient.
Cancer treatment will also widen to other services relating to cancer treatment such as radiotherapy, nuclear medicine that are currently not available in the Sultanate as well as a care taking (palliative) unit.
Cancer patients that need to be warded would still be hospitalised at RIPAS Hospital until the renovation works to offer special wards for cancer patients at JPMC are completed.
This will take several months and it is expected that the inpatient services will be fully transferred to JPMC early next year.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
