Photo Exhibition Captures History Of Brunei, Malaysia
Bandar Seri Begawan - It is important to provide information to the public about historical aspects of Brunei and Malaysia as both are Malay countries that share friendly relations, said an Acting Senior Information Officer at the Information Department yesterday.
During a photo exhibition showcasing images of both countries' activities, Azman Hj Abd Rahim, who is also the Information Department's Head of Publication and Exhibition, told The Brunei Times that the public also needed to learn about both countries' systems of administration.
"Personally, I do not exactly know how the Malaysian system works, and if I read about it from a book, it will take a lot of time. Therefore, having a photo exhibition is good because people can get first-hand information by looking at the photo displays of both countries," he said.
The department's director, Dr Muhd Hadi Muhd Melayong, agreed. "The aim of this photo exhibition is to expose citizens of both countries on historical aspects and on the expansion and development of the respective countries, among others, through photos of activities undertaken by both countries during Brunei's National Day this year and Malaysia's Federal Territory Day."
Dr Muhd Hadi said he hoped the photo exhibition would also benefit both countries, especially by promoting information to citizens about the close relationships shared between Brunei and Malaysia to date.
He added that the exhibition will further enhance a sense of "respect" among the 10 Mean member states, in line with regional body's slogan this year, "One Vision, One Community and One Identity".
The exhibition is a programme implemented under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between both governments. Malaysia's Information Department held their photo exhibition in February in Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with their 35th Federal Territory Day.
The exhibition, which is being held at the Giant Hypermart in Tasik Rimba, is open to the public 9am to 9pm and ends tomorrow.
Also, a colouring contest for children under the age of 12, a quiz and a handicraft competition will be held during the exhibition.
The opening of the exhibition was officiated by Minister of Energy Pebin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (Rid) Dato Seri Pahlawan Hj Mohd Hj Daud.
