Bandar Seri Begawan - The results for the 2009 Brunei Higher Religious Studies Certificate (STPUB) examination were released yesterday afternoon. Eighty-five per cent of the students, or 119 out of the 140 candidates who sat for the examination, received their full certificates. It was an 83 per cent increase on the number of passing grades in 2008. Candidates can obtain their results from their respective schools while private candidates can collect their result slips at the Examinations Section of the Islamic Studies Department at the Crowd Floor of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, during working hours. The examination is compulsory for Sixth Form students at Religious or Arabic secondary schools, including those studying at the Institute Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. Candidates are required to choose between Syariah (Islamic Law) or Usuluddin (Principles of Islam) fields as one of their subjects while Lughah (Arabic Language) is compulsory. Private candidates including non-Bruneians (such as children of expatriates) are allowed to sit for the examination provided that they meet the requirements on top of a registration fee of $184.-- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
