Bandar Seri Begawan - The Institution of Engineering & Technology (I ET) Brunei Darussalam Network recently organised a presentation on the IET and its publications to about 30 engineering officers and technicians from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF).
The presentation was held at the new MINDEF Library & Info Centre, which stocks over 20,000 books and journal articles encompassing wide range of subject matters including warfare, weapons, strategies, leadership, management, policy making, history and world facts.
During the presentation, Michael Kwok presented the benefits of IET membership, professional registration and later focused on the powerful research tool from IET, the Inspec Direct.
When closing the presentation, an RBAF Engineering Officer who is also a member of the IET Brunei Darussalam Network shared his inspiration on professional registration. Michael Kwok is the Sales and Training Manager, Asia Pacific, Publishing and Inspec. He was in Brunei to demonstrate the features of Inspec Direct at Universiti Brunei Darussalam and Institut Teknologi Brunei.
The IET is one of the world's leading professional societies for the engineering and technology community, with more than 150,000 members in 127 countries. It provides a global knowledge network to facilitate the exchange of ideas and promote the positive role of science, engineering and technology in the world. It also provides various professional development services to its members as well as route to professional registration. Engineers with professional registration are recognised internationally, which is an important criterion when working and collaborating with their international counterparts.
In his second part of the talk, Michael demonstrated the features of IET Inspec Direct. Inspec Direct delivers access to the database now containing close to 11 million bibliographic records and is growing at the rate of 700,000 records each year.
IET Brunei Darussalam Network organises professional development activities and provides support to members in Brunei. To learn about the activities of IET Brunei Network, members of the public can log on to the website at http://www.theiet.org.bn.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
