Hamidjojo Expects To Begin Building Solar Plant Next Year
Solar-Powered Traffic Lights Have Been Installed At Major Zebra Crossings In Bandar Seri Begawan.
Bandar Seri Begawan - Hamidjojo Development Sdn Bhd expects to begin the construction of its solar thin film plant in Brunei in March next year.
The actual date of the start of construction is hinged on bank financing for the project, said Joseph Sequeira, technical director of Hamidjojo Development
"Right now everything is nearly done, but we are waiting for the financing from the banks of which we are positive as they tell us that it should be done by next year, and that's when we start construction," he said in an interview.
The company is still finalising details including the contract documents, said Rubyanto Hamidjojo, managing director and chief executive officer of Hamidjojo Development At the same time we are also in discussions with our clients so there is still a number of things that we have to do."
He said the solar thin film plant will take an estimated two years to build. This time frame includes the installation of the equipment, he added.
In August this year, Hamidjojo and Tony Lin, chairman of Taiwan-based Nanowin Technology Co Ltd signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the project at the Cheok, Sankaran and Halim law firm.
Nanowin Technology Co Ltd will supply 22 lines of solar modules to Hamidjojo's facilities in Singapore, Brunei and Indonesia.
The Brunei facility will be supplied two lines, giving it an annual production capacity of 400,000 solar panels or an equivalent of 80 megawatts.
Nanowin specialises in the solar thin film technology called CIGS (copperindiumgalliumselenide), which has been noted for better efficiency and performance of panels that are seen not to deteriorate over long-term exposure to sunlight.
Nanowin Technology will provide the machinery, technology and will be in charge of staff training and related technological aspects of Hamidjojo's solar thin film project in Brunei. Hamidjojo, on the other hand, will be in charge of the the physical plant, the wiring and logistics, including the hiring of staff.
In addition, the MoU states that Nanowin Technology will appoint Hamidjojo Development as its sole representative in Asia (excluding India, Australia and the Pacific). This means that in Asia, only Hamidjojo will be allowed to use Nanowin's CIGS technology.
"We are extremely happy with the technology that Nanowin Technology has and that one of the additional projects that we will hope to develop from this solar thin film plant will be to supply the raw materials needed for the plants in Singapore, Indonesia and Brunei," Hamidjojo said in an interview with The Brunei Times earlier this year. Brunei has vast supply of silica, which is one of the main raw materials in the production of thin film modules.
"With Nanowin supplying the technology and also the machines to produce high-efficiency thin film CIGS solar panels, we are now producing the solar panel at eight per cent efficiency," said Lin on the specifications of the modules that are being produced.
"But after some adjustments which we are making to the technology, before the end of September, we will be able to supply 10 per cent efficiency," Lin said in an interview earlier this year.
Sequeira explained that solar panel efficiency refers to how much sun energy is being absorbed by the panels. Hamidjojo said that once the plant is complete, they will then be able to supply them locally, as there is a demand for solar thin film modules.-- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
