‘Qurban' Activities Continue On The Last Day Of Aidil Adha
The Ministry of Finance held the qurban ceremony at its headquarters in Berakas.
Organized by the Customs and Excise Department, a total of 11 cattles were slaughtered and distributed to the needy, according to a report by Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB).
Her Royal Highness Princess Hafizah Sururul Bulqiah was on hand to present the sacrificial meat to 150 orphans of Mukim Berakas.
Also present at the ceremony was the Minister of Finance II, Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Hj Abdul Rahman Hj Ibrahim.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) also held the same event yesterday at the ministry's building at Jln Menteri Besar.
According to a statement by the ministry, five goats and eight cattles were sacrificed and the meat were distributed to 51 recipients from Brunei-Muara District by the minister Pehin Jawatan Luar Pekerma Raja Dato Seri Utama Dr Ustaz Hj Md Zain Hj Serudin. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) conducted the ceremony to commemorate Aidil Adha at Information Department in Berakas, yesterday.
Present was Hj Abdul Aziz Orang Kaya Maharajalela Hj Mohd Yussoff, the permanent secretary at the PMO.
Also present were Yang Amat Mulia Pg Anak Khairul Khalil Pg Syed Hj Jaafari and Hj Abdul Raub Hj Mohd Yassin, deputy director of Anti-Corruption Bureau along with other senior officials from PMO.
"We should pray that in the coming years that we would always carry out the qurban to strengthen our taqwa (fear of Allah SWT) and iman (faith) to Allah SWT in upholding (Islam). We should always make sacrifices, not only through qurban in the Zulhijjah month but, throughout our lifetime as a servant to Allah (SWT)," said Dr Hj Muhammad Hadi Hj Melayong, the director of Information Department. He added that it was through this too, the people and Brunei can defend Islam from attempts to shake the status of Islam as the national religion as well as philosophy of Malay Islamic Monarchy.
He also talked about the history of qurban which began with the sacrifice demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and his son Prophet Ismail (peace be upon him) and made some reflections on it.
"For us to get this kind of deep taqwa and iman, we have to sacrifice. In the modern times, what are our sacrifices? What are the things that we long and appreciate? The answer is none other than our treasure and money as well as our energy, time, position, knowledge and status in life."
A religious talk was delivered by Ustaz Hj Anwari Hj Rawee from Islamic Da'wah Centre before the distribution of the qurban meat. Five cattles were sacrificed and the meat was distributed among the eligible recipients who were residents and orphans from six nearby villages in Mukim Berakas. Also receiving the qurban meat were officers and staff of the PMO and the departments under it.
Meanwhile some 232 recipients were given the qurban meat during the Ministry of Health's qurban and aqiqah ceremony held at the ministry's headquarters.
The recipients consisted of the poor, orphans from Berakas ‘A' and Berakas ‘B' and the ministry's personnel.
Among those present were Minister of Health, Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Suyoi Hj Osman, the deputy minister, permanent secretary and several senior officers of the ministry.
A total of eight cattles and one sheep for aqiqah, contributed by the staff of the ministry, were sacrificed at the event.Also conducting the 'qurban' yesterday was the Ministry of Developmentwhere the minister Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Abdullah Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar, distributed the qurban meat to 31 recipients listed under the Ministry of Religious Affairs's list of poor people.
The event began with mass recital of 'takbir' Hari Raya Aidiladha led by the minister.
The Ministry of Education also held the qurban ceremony and a special talk yesterday at its premises. Present at the ceremony as the guest of honour was Minister of Education Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dam Seri Setia Haji Abdul Rahman Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib.
Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (Unissa) also conducted similar ceremony in which two cows and one sheep were sacrificed.
Present at the event was Dr Hj Md Yusop Hj Damit, Unissa's rector as well aslecturers, head villages from of nearby villages. The meat were distributed to the grassroot leaders as representatives for the deserving members of the community.
In Belait District the less fortunate residents of Mukim Lumut/Liang and surrounding received qurban meat from a private company as well as an individual family.
As part of the Aidil Adha ritual sacrifice of livestock, the company, Serikandi Group and a resident and her family from Mukim Lumut/Liang sacrificed three cattles for the celebration. The event was attended by the Belait District Officer Hj Jamain Hj Momin. -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
