Bandar Seri Begawan - To promote the culture of bergotong-royong' among the younger generations, the Seri Kandi Group of Companies yesterday morning held a Korban ceremony or `Feast of Sacrifice' in cooperation with the Belait District Office and the Mukim Consultative Council (MPM) to mark the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration.
This year, Chief Executive Officer Shaikh Khalid bin Shaikh Ahmad on behalf of Seri Kandi Group slaughtered 20 goats and two buffaloes to observe the event and distributed it to the needy, staff and attending guests.
At least 35 containers of sacrificial meat were distributed to the needy during the Korban ceremony which took place at Seri Kandi Restaurant along Jalan Setia di-Raja Kuala Belait yesterday morning.
Shaikh Khalid in his welcoming speech said this year, the Seri Kandi Group of Companies has included the participation from the District Office to assist in the distribution of the sacrificial meats to the poor and needy in the district and also members of the MPM to assist in the slaughtering, cutting and packing of the meats.
The spirit and culture of `bergotong-royong' or helping among the communities should be practised and preserved for the benefit of the younger generation, he added.
Apart from that, the Korban ceremony also provided an opportunity for expatriates to observe how the religious occasion is conducted in the Sultanate and how it is one of the most auspicious and joyous occasions in the Islamic calendar.
The Korban ceremony was annually organised by the Seri Kandi Group of Companies to commemorate Nabi Ismail (AS) spirit of Korban or sacrifice and is one of the most significant religious events in Islam.
Apart from the slaughtering and distribution of sacrificial meats, the Seri Kandi Group of Companies also hosted free lunch and recited the Hari Raya 'Takbir' and 'Doa Selamat' prior to the slaughtering.
Present to distribute the sacrificial meats to the needy in the district was the Belait District Officer Haji Jamain bin Momin.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
