Popular Agrifood Expo Ends Today
The Agriculture and Agrifood Department, organiser of the It-day expo, has recorded a good turnout throughout the event, with more than 27,000 people visiting the expo at the Tungku Agricultural Development Area as of Friday.
The department is even considering opening the park every weekend due to the popularity of the expo and requests from the public.
Many were seen making a beeline for the tractor ride, which takes visitors around the Tungku Agricultural Development Area.
During the ride, visitors will pass through the lush green field of vegetable crops and farm animals, which has caught the attention of adults and children alike.
The public can ask to be dropped off at any of the seven stop points, which have various vegetables incorporated into the design of each stop.
Each tractor has the capacity to carry about 20 people on the tour around the vicinity.
A total of six tractors carry out the tour which can take an unpredictable amount of tithe since the visitors stop and take pictures of the attractions.
On average, each tractor makes six trips during the morning shift.
The expo is open until 6pm.
"The queue always keeps growing even when it's already 6pm. By then, we have to apologise to them (the public) and tell them that we are closing for the day." a staff from the department was quoted as saying in a previous news report.
The popularity has also prompted the addition of new attractions since the expo's opening.
Horse and pony rides by the Brunei Equestrian Centre (BEQ) are among the new additions.
BEQ staff managing the horse rides said that they joined the expo on November 22 and have received a favourable response from the public.
The expo also serves as an ideal way for visitors to learn and enjoy various aspects of agriculture and agrifood. Visitors also have the opportunity to tour other booths and exhibits, including the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood's foul- flagship projects as stipulated in its strategic plan.
The four projects showcased were the nationwide padi production initiative, development of the Brunei Halal Brand, the development of the livestock industry and the agrifood industry. .Some 195 spaces for exhibits and sales have been made available for participation by local and foreign companies at this year's expo.
An agriculture and agrifood clinic was also set up at die expo, which allows the public to ask questions or raise problems relating to the agriculture industry. -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
