HRH Attends Youth Talks At CHOGM

Bandar Seri Begawan -His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Ministers Office, joined 50 leaders for the second day of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (Chogm), which focused on youths.

Representing His Majesty the Sultan and Yang DiPertuan of Brunei Darussalam. HRH attended the first executive session and retreat sessions, chaired by Trinidad and Tobago's Prime Minister Patrick Manning on Saturday afternoon, a press statement front the Prime Minister's office read.

HRH also attended a youth dialogue which involves interaction with the representative group of youth leaders, during a lunch reception in Port of Spain, capital city of Caribbean island nation Trinidad and Tobago.

Later, the Crown Prince held a bilateral meeting with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad.

During the meeting, HRH and the premier exchanged views on cooperation areas, including education, health, trade and climate change.

Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Abdul Qawi also attended the meeting, the statement added.

Themed "Partnership for a more Equitable and Sustainable Future", the biennial Chogm summit saw climate change dominating the first day of talks, where Commonwealth leaders supported the creation of a multimillion dollar fund to help developing countries tackle the global issue.

The leaders also issued a statement, pledging their continued support to "deliver a comprehensive, substantial and operationally binding agreement" in the UN Copenhagen global climate change summit leading towards a full legally binding outcome no later than 2010.

Chogm is the last major international meeting before the Copenhagen meet from December 7-18.

Founded in 1931, the Commonwealth, which comprises 53 countries, has a combined population of 1.8 billion. -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
