Promoting Temburong As A Tourist Hotspot In Brunei
Bangar - In An effort to promote Temburong District as a 'must visit' tourist destination in the Sultanate, various activities have been lined up, which includes the "Cuti-Cuti Temburong 2009" or 'Holiday in Temburong'.
The events will be held from December 4 to 27 and acts as platform for the district to welcome and encourage more visitors to come to Temburong including locals and foreign tourists.
The highlight of the event will be the 'Exhibition and Bazaar' sale, which is to be held every Friday until Sunday at the Bumiputera Complex. It also provides an opportunity for visitors to browse through and purchase locally made products especially handicrafts and other related-items.
Several ethnic groups such as the Lun Bawang, Iban and Malays have their own unique cultural and tradition based on the handicrafts they produce.
Visitors will also have the chance to participate in many activities organised every Sunday.
Among the interesting events are the "Pesta Joran" or Fishing festival on December 6 at Kampung Labu Estate. Exploration to several Mukims and villages in the district will be held on December 13.
Other events include a Mini Flora Carnival Show on December 20 at 8.00am at Bangar Town, a Tug-of -war competition on December 20 from 8.00pm at Batu Apoi Stadium and the popular `Bukit Patoi' Challenge on December 27 at Bukit Patoi Recreation Park.
The event is open to all and it often receives an overwhelming response from the public including foreign tourists.
Meanwhile, in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha, speedboat operators are enjoying brisk business as locals, especially those staying in the capital, returned to their respective homes in the district.
Ampuan Salleh, one of the speedboat operators from Temburong and Bandar, said business is good during public and school holidays. Many people now prefer to use their services. Compared to that in previous years.
The journey Takes about 45 minutes from Bandar and vice- versa. Travelling by land can sometimes be troublesome especially if there are beelines of cars queuing at the control posts. For those travel to Temburong, they need to pass two Immigration checkpoints in Limbang (Tedungan and Pandaruan) and board the ferry service across the Panduran River, which takes long hours to reach Temburong. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
