Bandar Seri Begawan - Recipients of the qurban (sacrificial) meat from His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to mark Aidil Adha expressed their gratitude and joy for the contribution which were presented to them by the monarch himself.

A total of 20 individuals were selected to receive their sacrificial meat yesterday by His Majesty during the qurban ceremony at the Jame'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kg Kiulap yesterday.

In an interview with The Brunei Times, Hj Sulaiman Hj Ismail from Kg Tamoi in Kg Ayer expressed his gratitude to His Majesty for the (sacrificial meat) to celebrate Aidil Adha with his family. "To me, receiving the sacrificial meat is a very special occasion. (Aidil Adha) happens only once a year and I am happy to be receiving it on behalf of my family," said the 84-year-old.

The father of five also grateful for the monthly allowance of $250 he receives from the Government of His Majesty to support his expenses.

Aminah Hjh Yussof from Kg Lorong Dalam, Mukim Burung Pingai Air said she was happy and grateful for Allah (SWT's) blessings to be among the chosen recipients to receive the sacrificial meat.

The 46-year-old mother of six also expressed her gratitude to the authorities for giving her financial assistance.

Another recipient, Mohd Yasin Mohd Serudin said he had already made plans to have a feast with his family after receiving the qurban meat he received.

"Thank you to His Majesty for giving me this sacrificial meat today. My wife and children will be having a great family dinner tonight, this is what T have planned today. Receiving this sacrificial meat means a lot to me," said Mohd Yasin.

The 58-year-old from Kg Bolkiah 'B'also expressed his gratitude as he had also received financial aid from baitulmal, a welfare programme from the Ministry of Religious Affairs to help lessen the burden of the poor.

According to a staff at Mulaut Abattoir, Mohd Dany Hj Jumat, a portion of the sacrificial meat which weighs at about two kilogrammes each is packed in a container before being distributed to the recipients.

The contribution of qurban meat from His Majesty will be distributed evenly among the less fortunate in the country's four districts.

In Belait District some 127 recipients registered under the Belait Religious Affairs Department as poor received a portion of the qurban meat from His Majesty and the royal family.

The recipients comprising 30 heads of families and 97 dependants received the meat from Belait District Officer Hj Jamain Momin.The meat was also distributed to mukim and village leaders on behalf of those who were unable to attend the function. -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
