Appreciation Motivates Students To Learn More

Bandar Seri Begawan - It Is important to appreciate and reward students for the hard work they have put in, by conducting annual certificate and prize presentations to honour them, the principal of Bright Jigsaw International School said yesterday.

At the school's annual graduation and school concert ceremony last night, Principal Elizabeth Sequeira told The Brunei Times that students deserved to be recognised for their academic achievement.

"I am so proud that our students did well this year. They have passed and we are rewarding reception students who are about to enter Primary One next year, as well as Primary Six students with certificates," she said.

She added that she was also proud of one of the school students who had secured a gold medal in computer science at an international competition recently.

Reception teacher Siti Nurul Sarina Abdullah said, "I feel so happy for the students today. They really worked very hard and I can see my students are prepared to enter Primary One next year."

Mother-of-three Rowena Hautea shared Siti Nurul Sarina's sentiments. I definitely feel proud and inspired that my daughter graduated from Primary Six tonight.

"I also feel motivated to help my kids to excel in their studies," she said.

Hautea added that not only was it important to reward students for their hard work, but graduation ceremonies created an "awareness" about the school's achievements to the public.

Another parent, Hasnah Hj Hassan, added, "These type of ceremonies will make children value what education is all about, and that it is not all just about playing."

Apart from the graduation ceremony, the top three students from all levels in the school received certificates for their academic performance.

Students also showcased their talents by performing dances and skits, all sharing the common theme "Our Environment, Our Life".

On hand to present the certificates to about 40 students was guest of honour Pg Hj Jadid Pg Hj Omarali.
