A Message to Rude Hospital Receptionist - Wealth Is Health!

I just cannot imagine how rude (sorry for the harsh word) but I just can't find any other word to describe her way of working that day.

I went to the hospital because of a chest pain at RIPAS, it was around 6 pm that day. The 1st thing I had to do was to register at the counter but no one was there so I filled in my form and handed it over to the nurse at the reception area. Initially I thought of paying few dollars fees for consultation at counter 15, but no one seemed to be there at all, so I just proceed to be examined by nurses and doctor. It was around 30 mins later after consultation that I went to the pharmacy section to collect my medicine but again no one was there.

I was forced to wait again and then around 20 mins later, the medical officer in charge finally showed up and I was told to go to counter 15 to pay as most Bruneians are required to but unfortunately no one seemed to be at the payment counter, but rather a piece of cardboard showing ‘waktu rehat' (break time) was displayed!

As a result more and more patients were getting really restless as they wanted to pay the fees and collect their medicine as soon as possible, I mean who wouldn't especially when you are sick. 10 minutes later the lady showed up bringing her kids around to the counter room, I could see her face was not sincere.

When she noticed a long queue ahead waiting to pay, I could hear some patients complaining to their family members. When it was my turn, she didn't really look at me, and she said " kdg2 inda ku faham why org ramai inda faham signboard atu..waktu rehat" (sometimes I don't understand why the public don't understand what is written on the signboard - it says break time)!

I was shocked by her response. I wanted to confront her but my wife stopped me and I just felt more sick being treated by these people working there. It is just unbelievable how a sick patient could tolerate those unkind words.

I decided to ignore her and proceed to collect my medicines. One thing I finally realized was that the whole hospital did not appear like one. Patients are being treated like they aren't sick

Of all those complaints I read on the papers, internet etc, I finally came to a point of agreement with all those posts and letters, that our hospital definitely need overhaul of changes in administrations, medical treatment and MOH should really pay a visit and see how those poor sick patients are being treated. I am not against our health care center, but as for me I rather go for private hospital treatment onwards even if it's going to cost me quite an amount of money, because wealth is health!

Where is MOH!???
written by Carmen , November 27, 2009
I am really really angered when I read letters of complaint like these... when I read the first few, I thought those were only a small number of individual cases.. but it can no longer be ignored anymore!!! Where is MOH!? Why don't they go undercover and see what the healthcare system in Brunei is REALLY like?! Why don't they care??? It really is disgusting and sickening how awful Bruneians are treating other Bruneians... and what's sad is that it is in our culture to keep quiet about matters like this... "Jangantah peduli tu... diam saja... sabar..." well we cannot sabar any longer!! MOH, please do something!

Shameful!!!
written by Dr Who , November 28, 2009
Shameful!!!!!! It is a management and leadership problem. If staff is not working properly the fault is with the managers not sorting it out. If the CEO and the management responsible were not aware of what is happening in the hospital then are NOT fit to be in charge of the administration. In organizations where there is excellent leadership this simply does not happen! This is just the sort of attitude that has contributed to the bad name of the hospital. It is unacceptable and the management needs to sort it out today! Don't bother writing new guidelines, or sitting endlessly in meetings. Get out there onto the wards etc, open your eyes and sort out the mess!

WHERE IS MOH???
written by BRUNEI CITIZEN , November 28, 2009
Yes, I agreed with you Carmen and the rest of the writers. Where is MOH??? They should go undercover and be treated like anyone of us. Then they will know the truth. I think the MOH are so much in control that they are enjoying their lives with no thoughts for anyone. It is so sad, because our Beloved Sultan,His Majesty has given us so much and yet those given the power are abusing it to their own benefits. PLEASE MOH DO SOMETHING GOOD FOR EVERYONE IN THIS COUNTRY. and Show us and especially His Highest that you are the right person to sit in that MOH chair and you deserve it.

written by NIMU , November 28, 2009
c'mon people, be easy with the receptionist.....just consider a few things with them. 1. Education - normally they dont have good education, max O level, so dont expect them to be able to give good service. 2. IQ - very low, so dont expect them to behave as we might expect. 3. attitute - low education, low IQ tell us what to expect from them.

memang pun talur receptionist ripas ani
written by salsa , November 28, 2009
MOH should not hire old aging ladies with decomposing brain cells like they have now at the counters for registering who have difficulty to see [ pasal buat2 nda nampak mun orang minta kana layan ] . ani tau minum lakak2 ketawa and beceta2 tah pulang.

the ladies they have now tau beceta-ceta saja and bawa anak2 ke tempat kaja. kalau nda pecaya dtang tah ke receptionist ah. aku ampit tu bediri2 duii dorang lintasi saja. batah ku berdiri atu. last2 tepaksa besuara2 minta layan. kalau receptionist ani apakan dorang yang greet orang datang bah. bukan nya meliat saja orang yang diri2 di luar kaca atu.

Furthermore, Ripas should create a shift system bah untuk reception ani. nda kan semua kan rehat. ganti2 lah. orang ke sana atu bukan untuk sehat2 dapat menunggu orang kan abis minum. orang sakit ani mau capat balik. baik tah di brantikan kaja dorang ani. bematian sja orang oleh dorang.

just my two cents thought

"just consider a few things with them. 1. Education - expect them to be able to give good service. 2. IQ - very low, so dont expect them to behave as we might expect. 3. attitute - low education, low IQ tell us what to expect from them" - am very disappointed that this "PERSON" gives such lousy excuse for such attitude... i don't think it takes much to give good service to public... if u think that a higher qualification guarantee a better service, how wrong u are.. it takes a caring person to care for others... if u adopt an " i don't give a d*** attitude" then the above discription fits it to the dot..now what we need is for the admin to give these frontliners some good old basic customer services lessons like how to SMILE, BE POLITE, BE MORE CARING AND NOT BEING NOSY, BE SINCERE, GIVE PROMPT SERVICES AND BE PATIENT TO THE PATIENT ETC... now i am not a graduate but i know good basic customer services... if i can think of this, i bet the admin staff should too... now, these people who goes to the hospital to seek medical attention must not feel well.. if these people are well, then they would not go to seek medical attention... these people would go SHOPPING!!! so pls get your act together.. don't give bruneian a bad name.. its embarassing..

Complaint and persue it
written by Jadu , November 29, 2009
What is the point in writing it here and expectiong that MOH people will read it and take action? They may read it, but will keep quiet.
One of the problems in brunei is that public is very inert, and afraid to do the things they are supposed to do. This is called citizens responsibility. Westerners are very good at it, that is why they always get a better system.

What you shoud do is to complaint to RIPAS, MOH and may be to other higher authorities, with all the details, actively push it, and seek for an explanation. Then they don`t have any other way than to make an enquiry, and to retrain the person in customer care.
Evey hospital has a complaint cell and people have to make use of it. If you are too lazy to complaint, then what is the point?

yes i strongly agree...not only at RIPAS,di kb pun sama....i remembered taking my sick kid who was just around 1 that time, suffering from asthma due to being sick.Well i understand it was at night around 12,but hey,if thats the time u work then what else can u do?there were no one at the medicine counter at the emergency room...we have to wait and wait...me n my wife waited for such a long time and lastly we just left...i was totaly pissed that i think if someone did showed up they will totally get a beating...
Not just my kid,but my mom who is a cancer patient got treated like a hamster...she had a tube inserted in her right chest and daaa that sure is painfull...but then those nureses in kb didnt even bother to clean it whenever my mom goes there for checkup...n even if they did they didnt even use any gloves or twitzers which they were trained to..cleanliness u may say...but my mom didnt want to complain anything coz she's scared that they might threat her more worst...N the worst thing is that due to that my mom had an infection on her chest where the tube was inserted...and now cant be used...n what i heard from my mom was that they are gonna insert a pod in her left chest now...if its not because of the nurses that didnt think of helping to clean my moms chest where the tube was inserted everytime my mom made a checkup, inserting a pod in her left chest wudnt be needed...it wont take whole day to clean it i guess...apa nya orang kitani..kalau inda mau kraja branti banyak lagi orang lain yg cari kraja....
