Our Slow Postal Services

Although postal services are seldom being used nowadays, but this doesn't mean that post offices can slow down the mailing. I just realized that Brunei is one of the members for Universal Postal Union. Why do other members of the Union can carry out their postal services in a fast and efficient way, but not Brunei?

A lot of people do their shopping online nowadays, but it takes almost a month for the Bruneians to receive their things. Brunei Postal Service does provide Express Mail Service, but do think it is "express"? EMS is charged at a higher rate because they post things immediately and postal items can be tracked from time to time. Somehow, the tracking seems to be lost when the item reached Brunei.

I'm so surprised when I read this from the Brunei Postal Service's website, "Brunei's Postal Services Department is ranked 17th globally in terms of performance parameters by the Universal Postal Union (UPU), the United Nations body that coordinates postal policies worldwide." Well, this is the "latest" news for the website, back at 2007. They even said that ""Each item that comes from express mail service (EMS) in Brunei gets tracked and traced and Brunei has a well in placed system when it comes to EMS." This might be referring to the local tracking system. Moreover, they also mentioned that "In order to improve the efficiency of mail delivery, the department will implement the International Postal System Track and Trace project set tentatively next month. The system will allow customers to track registered items via the Internet." I do understand that items, except letters, need to be checked by the Custom but it is being checked only when we collect the item at the post office. What makes the delivery so slow?

If it is a normal postal and it takes 1 month, I have nothing to say. But for EMS, it should have reached within a week, for countries within Asia. People use EMS because the things are urgent and important. I hope the Brunei Postal Service Department should pay more attention to this issue SOON.
