Bandar Seri Begawan - Victims of the recent Kg Ujong Tanjong fire mishap yesterday received financial contributions from Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (Yayasan SHHB) and the Department of Community Development (Jabatan Pembangunan Masyarakat, JAPEM), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, in a ceremony held at the Yayasan SHHB headquarters at Jalan Kumbang Pasang, yesterday.

During the ceremony, a total of B$9,600 in cash was given to 11 families comprising 32 members. On hand to present the cash donations was the Managing Director of Yayasan SHHB, Dato Paduka Hj Ali Hashim bin Hj Daud.

Yesterday's recipients were Awg Zinin Ibrahim, Dyg Hjh Tijah Ibrahim, Dyg Salbiah Hj Taha, Dyg Siti Zainah Ahmad, Mohd Sallehen Muhaddin, Dyg Maimunah Hj Metussin, Dyg Khatijah Awg Besar, Awg Ibnu Khalid Awg Besar, Dyg Hasimah Awg Besar, Awg Malek Awg Besar and Awg Abd Kadir Hj Mat Yasin.

JAPEM, on the other hand, presented a total of $21,400 to three of the 11 recipients to help ease their burden after the fire incident. Dyg Hjh Maimunah received $8,600, while Awg Abd Kadir was given $6,000 and Awg Zinin, Representing the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam through JAPEM in presenting the contributions was Datin Hjh Adina Othman, Director of JAPEM.

Prior to yesterday's ceremony, the Community Development Department had also made several contributions in the form of a week's worth of food supplies, mattresses, pillows and blankets to the fire victims.

Both Yayasan SHHB and JAPEM have in the past provided assistance in various forms to the needy as well as victims of natural disasters.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
