Youth Commonwealth Contest Under Way
Bandar Seri Begawan - The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports invites submissions for the "My Commonwealth Competition" under The Commonwealth Conversation.
According to a statement by The Royal Commonwealth Society, the competition is opened to youths under 25 years old. The main objectives of this competition is to promote knowledge about Commonwealth and develop youths' creativity in creative and critical writing as well as drawing.
Interested individuals are welcome to submit a short visionary essay or image on how and what the Commonwealth would look like and do on its 100th birthday in 2049. They are to write from the Commonwealth Secretary-General's point of view as if they are holding the position at that time.
Contents can include ideas such as international issues that the Commonwealth will be prioritising in 2049 and solutions on how to tackle them; the countries in Commonwealth and who will be running the Commonwealth in that year and where they are from. All this must be written and/or illustrated by way of images drawn on one side of a paper. Participants are reminded to include their name, age and country on the same paper.
Prizes will be in the form of vouchers from Amazon.com worth £200 ($660), £100 ($330) and £50 ($165) for the first, second and third prizes, respectively. Winners can choose to spend the gift vouchers on any items on Amazon.com such as books, Os and DVDs. The best and most interesting submissions will be included in the Commonwealth Conversation report which will be presented to prime ministers, presidents, foreign ministers and other leaders from all 53 Commonwealth countries. Additionally, most of the entries submitted will be uploaded onto an online gallery and blog on www.thecommonwealth conversation.org.
