Brunei Silat Eye More Gold Medals
Brunei pencak silat team for Borneo Games.
Bandar Seri Begawan - The Brunei pencak silat team for the 3rd Borneo Games hosted by Brunei Darussalam from Nov 29 to Dec 6 will be looking to grab at least two gold medals for the country.
This year, Brunei will be represented by 10 silat exponents at the games.
Eddy Ratno Hj Abu Bakar will be taking part in the Men's Tunggal, Muhammad Nur Fadzillah bin Hj Metussin with Muhammad Fadzil Afifi bin Hj Md Hussin will be joining the men's Ganda, Md Amin bin Ali together with Abd Malik bin Hj Ladu and Jufri bin Hj Juanidi will be participating in the Men's Regu.
Meanwhile for the ladies, Norleydiana binti Hj Raya will be joining hands with Norleyharyanti binti Hj Raya and Nurul Aimi Amalina binti Zanidi competiting in the Women's Regu while Siti Noradiyatul Amal binti Roslan will be taking part in the Women's Tunggal.
Hj Abdul Razak bin Hj Md Dali, the manager of the team in an interview said: "We are looking to snatch at least two gold, two silver and two2 bronze medals in the 16 events contested. Our gold medals hope lies mostly in the Men and Women's Regu event. Maybe the Men's Singles may even snatch a gold for Brunei."
"The exponents selected are of some of the best in Brunei, Norleydiana is a gold medallist at the 2003 SEA Games, Norleyharyanti with Nurul Aimi Amaliana won a bronze medal at the recent 3rd Asian Indoor Games.
"Md Amin and Abd Malik both were bronze medallists at the Singapore Open this year while the rest of the team are high achievers in national level competitions."
On preparations for the games, Hj Abdul Razak said: "The team have been together for a few months and we have been in centralised and intensive training since early September."
However, he warned: "All the participating contingents will be sending their best silat exponents to the games and we are anticipating a tough competition."-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
