Fire fighters are seen dousing the flames

Bandar Seri Begawan - A Fire broke out at Pulaie Primary School yesterday morning leaving some of the students in a state of panic.

The fire gutted the school's library. "We were all in the auditorium when the fire broke out," said a teacher.

The fire was first spotted by two cleaners who alerted the teacher.

"We were in the middle of a rehearsal for the yearend school performance and best student certificate presentation, which will be held tomorrow (Wednesday), when the incident happened. The kids were all in a panic, so we moved them all out to the field following our emergency procedures," she said.

Fire and Rescue Department officials arrived at the scene and managed to douse the flames before it could spread to the upper floor of the library. The fire also destroyed the school dental clinic, which was located next to the library room.

One of the teachers said quick action by fire fighters who arrived at the scene in a flash saved the school administration block from further fire damage.

Twenty-four personnel from three fire stations from Operation "C" - Berakas, Lambak Kanan Fire Stations and Women Operation Unit - and six fire engines were rushed to the scene upon receiving a call and managed to contain the fire in under six minutes.

Officials from the department said the fire was caused by a three-way network rack extension that overheated. Many parents rushed to the school, which has 250 students, after hearing of the fire. No injuries were reported.
