Operations Manager Herman Sulimin said that the two-weeks-to-one-month attachment programme developed for the young students would help them refine their practical skills needed in the industry.
It will also provide them with short-term work experience by applying their knowledge into "real world practice". Subject to recommendation by their respective schools' principals, students will benefit from the attachment programme.
They will be able to learn managerial activities in key hospitality settings, the development and management of hospitality services, and also learn effective communication skills in hospitality practices.
The work attachment will not only help students gain the knowledge and skills necessary, but students can also begin building their network of contacts and serve as a stepping stone for a brighter future in the hospital industry, said the Operations Manager. Mr Sulimin believes that attitude and personal character are immensely important for students wanting to develop a career in the hospitality industry.
"Our staff must care for our guests and have genuine passion for their jobs," said the Operations Manager, adding that work experience and academic qualifications in disciplines such as in hotel management are always advantageous. He noted that the hospitality industry is very dynamic and constantly innovating to meet the needs of consumers.
In the process of developing the work attachment programme to cater for students early next month, the Swiss Hotel Apartment and sister hotel, Tat Place Hotel, invited three schools in the Belait District for an educational tour around both hotels located within the town's area.
Yesterday morning, 31 Secondary Four students led by four teachers from Sekolah PJN Pg Abu Bakar Kg Pandan made an educational visit to the hotel. At the hotel, students were brought to tour the Housekeeping, Food and Beverage, Maintenance and Laundry Departments. The Operations Manager added that the hotel hopes to attract young talents who did not originally think of tapping into the industry, and further exposed them to career opportunities available at the Swiss Hotel and Apartment. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
