Scheme gives round the clock protection
Bandar Seri Begawan - Unforeseeable dangers and injuries that Fire and Rescue personnel face in the line of duty could range from a graze to life threatening situations. But whatever the scenario, fire fighters would at least feel better knowing that they are covered by insurance.
In an effort to secure the lives of Fire and Rescue Department personnel against mishaps or accidents, while performing their duties or otherwise, locally or abroad, an agreement has been made to cover the officers and staff with the Group Family Takaful insurance scheme.
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Fire and Rescue Department and Insurance Islam TAIB was held yesterday at the Officers Mess, Fire and Rescue Department HQ and witnessed by guest of honour Hj Mohd Abdoh bin Dato Seri Setia Hj Abdul Salam, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Signing on behalf of the Fire and Rescue Department was Awg Yahya bin Hj Abd Rahman, Director of the Fire and Rescue Department, while Insurance Islam TAIB was represented by Hjh Nornaimah bte Hj Zainip, Acting Managing Director of Insurance Islam TAIB.
Prior to the signing, the ceremony's chairperson, Hjh Siti Mayang bte Hj Hussin, Assistant Director of Training Planning and Personnel, in her speech said the insurance coverage will be significant and beneficial for Fire and Rescue officers and staff because their job puts them in the danger zone in order to help the community and save lives.
The insurance scheme, called Group Family Takaful, will protect personnel round the clock against mishaps whether they are on duty or not, in the country or abroad.
Hjh Siti Mayang added that the insurance is expected to upgrade efforts to avoid any unfortunate incidence from occurring since officers and personnel, during duties, are at high risk that compromises their health and life or face permanent physical disabilities.
Also attending the signing ceremony were Pg Hj Md Zain bin Pg Damit, Acting Managing Director of Insurance Islam TAIB; Lim Hock Guan, Acting Deputy Director of Fire and Rescue; and Hj Ahmad bin Mohd Yassin, Senior Administrative Office Fire and Rescue Department.
The insurance for officers and personnel will be in effect from October 1, 2009 after provisions are approved. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
