Chung Hwa Juniors Celebrate Seniors' Graduation
Bandar Seri Begawan - The Secondary Four students of Chung Hwa Middle School Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) have joined hands with their seniors from Secondary Five to put up a performance celebrating the graduations of the latter.
Sharon Wong, representative of the Secondary Four students congratulated her seniors in a speech during the graduation ceremony, adding that the seniors have served as their inspiration, and that they have seen them burning the midnight oils in order to achieve their goals.
She added that the Secondary Four students will use them as role models and as predecessors, will make sure to achieved the same successes.
Representative for the graduating Secondary Five students was Tan Wan Jing, who spent 13 years in Chung Hwa BSB from kindergarten to Secondary Five.
In her address, she said that they will forever be indebted to the wonderful teachers and classmates who have enriched their life in Chung Hwa.
She also reminded her graduating schoolmates that the ceremony is not a time to cry, but for them to celebrate the friendships and relish the fond memories that they collected throughout their time at the school. Among the graduates was Shirley Lim Sek Li, top student of the graduating batch, and model student for the upper secondary section.
When asked for recipe of success, she replied that it was the methods used by the teachers in conducting the various classes that had helped with the understanding and the retention of knowledge.
She revealed that she wanted to pursue biomedicine in Kuala Lumpur in the future, adding that she will be going to Kuching to prepare for her Cambridge "A" Level examination.
Another top student who came second after Lim, Ivan Wong Weei said that he has transformed from an average student since he joined the school. He told The Brunei Times that he started to change upon starting his secondary education at Chung Hwa BSB.
I started to study very hard because I wanted to learn more about the things that were taught in class," he added.
He attributed his success to his mother's encouragement, and hoped to become an engineer in the future.
A total of 103 graduates received their certificates yesterday from Tan San Leong, Chairman of the school and the school's principal, Kho Guik Lan. The event was organised by the students under the supervision of the teachers. Earlier in the morning, Chung Hwa BSB had witnessed the graduation of 291 kindergarten students.
They were mostly accompanied by their parents that resulted in a traffic jam outside the school's gate in Bandar.
Darryn Liew, the President of Chung Hwa BSB Home Tuition Association, whose daughter graduated that morning, applauded the kindergarten teachers for their love and care for the kids, and who were very tolerant towards the sometimes overzealous parents.
He said that they, as parents have grown to overly rely on the teachers all these years. The graduation ceremony was distinct in the sense that it was filled with plenty of performances by the kids, who were also eager to show off their talents in from of a full house in the Darussalam Hall.
Sim Man Ling, the acting supervisor of the kindergarten took the opportunity to thank the teachers for teaching and caring for the kids.-- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
