Swine Flu Boosts Lozenge Sales
Sales of Fisherman's Friend lozenges are soaring because people believe they might cure swine flu.
Demand for the aniseed variety of the 65-year-old winter warmer has meant an unprecedented rise in production.
Key ingredient star anise - pure aniseed - is also contained in the swine flu treatment Tamiflu, reports the Daily Mirror.
There is no evidence that sucking a Fisherman's Friend can cure swine flu but people are making the link for themselves.
Fisherman's Friend makers Lofthouse of Fleetwood Ltd told Grocer magazine: "Sales are up 43% since June and we are struggling to cope.
"We make no claims for our product - though enjoying a Fisherman's Friend will certainly do no harm. People are making the aniseed link themselves." -- Courtesy of Ananova.com
