Ideas To Put Brunei On World Map
Bandar Seri Begawan - Ways to put Brunei on the world map, development possibilities for the capital and lessons from the world's big cities were highlighted at the second Visioning Workshop for Bandar Seri Begawan Development Master Plan which will be a comprehensive plan for the capital, providing solid and clear development strategies that will serve as a guidance for its future development.
Marc Shamma' a from HOK International said Bandar's unique waterfront showcasing Kg Ayer, a spectacular mosque and greenery coupled with the spectacular local traditions and history, can be an added advantage for the sultanate.
He also asked the stakeholders comprising the private sector, community groups and youths what is relevant to Brunei that can stimulate the local economy to attract investors to come to the country, while the possibilities of better "transport circulation" to the capital to attract businesses and ways to stimulate industries in the city were also raised.
Kg Ayer which is the heart and history of the city should be utilised.
He also highlighted cafes by the waterfront, though people may see the idea as unfeasible due to our hot weather On September 8, 2009, the government of His Majesty appointed HOK International (Asia/Pacific) Ltd as consultant to prepare the BSB Development Master Plan.
As part of the project methodology, the consultant is consulting with key stakeholders of the city.
The purpose of the Visioning Workshop is to explore aspirations, issues of concern and key visions of stakeholders for the city of Bandar Seri Begawan in the short term (five years), medium term (10 years) and long term (25 years).
It is an opportunity to document project goals and formulate initial concepts that will become the basis for developing the master plan.
The Visioning Workshop held yesterday was the second of two rounds of Visioning Workshops.The first Visioning Workshop was conducted on Oct 6, 2009 involving stakeholders predominantly from the government sector.
Aside from the Visioning Workshops, stakeholders will be kept involved in the project through other public consultation means such as project website, design charettes and exhibitions. The second Visioning Workshop explored five keys topics, namely, transport and infrastructure, urban planning and design, uniqueness of BSB, economics and implementation as well as environmental considerations. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
