Workshop Explores Aspirations, Issues For BSB Development
Bandar Seri Begawan - The second part of a two-round visioning workshop to explore aspirations, issues of concern and key visions of stakeholders for the Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Development Masterplan was held yesterday at The Rizqun International Hotel.
Participants comprising businessmen, representatives of community groups and students were invited to share their views and ideas of how they want the capital to look like in the next 30 years and beyond.
Based on the analysis of the input gained during the first visioning workshop, which was held in early October, yesterday's session looked at five key areas, namely transport and infrastructure, urban planning and design, uniqueness of Bandar Seri Begawan, economics and implementation, and environmental considerations.
"This is the refinement of the ideas selected during the previous visioning workshop," said Marc Emile Shamma'a, the national director of Jones Lang LaSalle, one of the consultants involved in the formulation of the masterplan.
About 25 participants were divided into five roundtable groups, where they discussed and explored each of the five topics and gave their views of what should be done to develop the capital.
For each table, a consultant team led by a "table manager" noted down the participants' suggestions and concerns. This was done on a rotation basis as the consultant teams moved from table to table, allowing the participants to explore all five topics.
At the end of these "break-out" sessions, each group presented and reviewed the main outcomes from their discussions. The participants then voted for the issues which they thought were of high importance to them.
The identified issues will be used in the following steps of the project, which is expected to be completed in July 2010, according to a statement from the project coordinator.
