Belated Hari Raya Celebration For QUB Students
Belated Hari Raya Celebration For QUB Students
Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei students pursuing their studies at Queen's University of Belfast (QUB), Northern Ireland, recently enjoyed belated Hari Raya Aidilfitri functior despite the festivities having ended lass month.
The students said the belated Raya celebration was a welcoming function for final year students who will graduate next July if they succeed in passing their final examinations.
"It was a little late because the student arrived much later in Northern Ireland and were settling important issues such as that of accommodation.
"Once they had done so, we decided to hold the event, which would most likely be the last time the final year students celebrated Hari Raya here," they said.
The function was held at 79, Edinburgh Street, and had dishes such as chicken curry, assorted vegetables, rice, fruits and Raya cakes brought in from Brunei.
"We also played Raya songs but did not hold any performances. The function ended with a prayer. The final year students should be completing their studies in less than a year," they said.
"We did celebrate Raya at our homes in Brunei but this event was held so that we could hold a celebration specifically amongst ourselves."-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
