Unpleasant Encounter In A Book Store
Unpleasant Encounter In A Book Store

I just want to share with people out there if any of you had the same experience as mine. I went to a bookstore located at Giant sometime last week to buy my favourite books as that bookstore offers cheaper price than others.
I used to go there every month and I find the cashier and the sales girl (both Non-Bruneian) are not that friendly, but I don't care about that as long as I got good price. However my experience last week made me write this in the HYS. I was buying 3 type of magazines and when I reached the cashier counter, there were couple who were foreigners (I think they are Spaniards) in front of me to pay for their books and the cashier talk so friendly and say thank you with a million dollar smile and the sales girl standing by the door also say thank you (repeatedly) and even open the door for the couple.
When it's my turn to pay, that big smile, friendly and courtesy look suddenly faded, so what I am asking is what have I done wrong? Is my money not worth as that couple's money? Is it because I am local? Is it because I don't look presentable? Not even a "Thank You" word and the salesgirl (even though she is standing by the door) didn't even open the door for me.
Shouldn't every CUSTOMER deserve the same service as the couple did?! I'm honestly disappointed with their bias service.

Unfortunately... We are discriminating ourselves. Macammana european ani kan hormat kitani?

But I am a regular customer there, and I have never came across with such things there.
However, the cashiers and sales attendants of Giant (mostly locals) do NEED to show some respect and smile to the customers, don't you think?

Masalahnya, bisdorang sendiri inda hormat bangsa dorang sendiri. Jgntah orang Asian yg lain, orang Brunei sendiri kurang menghormati pelanggan yg sama bangsa bisdorang. Ada tia kena jaling, mua marung, malas melayan, dll. Etika sopan santun kurang diamalkan.
Memasan buku pun sampai bertahun lamanya. Becakap tah dorang dlm bahasa dorang tu, mengumpat depan-depan kitani. Maunya masuk dalam surat khabar, gambar muka dorang n kedai dorang atu kali. Barutah kali dorang membuat tindakkan. Astaghfirullah....
Kitani inda banyak pilihan kan mencari kedai buku lain. Dapat dihitung dengan sebelah tangan saja kedai buku diBrunei ani. Kedai n cawangan bisdorang yang sama jua dimana-mana. Jadi dorang inda takut kan kehilangan pelanggan.
Kadang-kadang kitani mampu giling kepala & menghela nafas n diamkan diri saja. Kan marah pun inda jua gunanya. Sedih & sakit mata melihat orang macamatu. Mudahan tah berubah perangai masing2 jadi baik, amin.

As for workers' attitude, those with shop know it is impossible to get a perfect worker. We as customer would get angry about their cold face and get the right to complain or post suggestion. How about those worker who were being scolded loudly by customer who think that they are the king but have forgotten the fact that they too, are a human being.
Discrimination? I did it sometimes. Or maybe most of the time, the trouble is : only I myself am not aware of it.
And I totally agree with chinsy's comment. We should speak out if we don't like the service. But NICELY please......

Does she not realize that it is not mandatory to please everybody and that it is up to each worker whether to act beyond their work performance to go the extra mile to shower their customers with extra affections.
It is a known fact that the $500 a month such workers make do not make them personally happy as well as satisfied persons. They have to make do with a deprived lifestyle without any hope of retiring rich and here you are making such a demand on their feelings as if they are better off and happier and that they can "sacrifice" something, their emotion perhaps, to make "rich ma'm" happy while shopping.
What are you?... a Bruneian ego-maniac?
These poor workers have nothing to look forward to at the end of the day. No nice big TV, no fancy meals with beefsteak and a poor place to stay in. Will you exchange your lifestyle with them? I think you should and you better do what you have been preaching and smile at everybody to keep them contented while receiving nothing to lighten the burden of hardship which you have to endure as a poor person.

Sometimes you just need to tell them in their face that they are rude. Happened to me once when a local girl at DST put up a geram face when she had to attend to me. I just ask her if she only smile to guys.
Since then, it never happen to me again. Know your rights as a customer. Some people forget they are being paid to do their job.
