Embassy Receives $29, 674 For Philippine Flood Victims
Bandar Seri Beagawan - Donations from Brunei Darussalam for the typhoon victims in the Philippines received a total sum of $29,674.61 from Oct 8 to Nov 5, according to a Philippine Embassy tally.
The list does not include donations sent anonymously, that is, unknown to the Philippine Embassy, nor donations coursed through the Brunei government's National Committee for the Indonesian Earthquake and Philippine Storm, the Philippine Embassy said.
Last Thursday's donors were Liza Thian, $100 and Aileena Kian Kok Huau, $200. Standard Chartered Bank c/o Danny Quah, CEO, donated $1,580.82 on Nov 3. The Catholic community (St John's Church, Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception and Church of Our Lady of the Assumption) sent directly to Caritas Manila $10,328.79 on Oct 19. HSBC Brunei c/o Boon Teck Lim, manager, sent $1,370 directly to the Philippine National Red Cross. Mitsuo Vege Restaurant donated $3,015 on Oct 22.
Thirty-five boxes of food and new and used clothes came from Netcom Computer House c/o Ms Grace Quevedo Elamela.
On Nov 12, Makati Express, a local sea cargo forwarding company, will be shipping free of charge to Manila 11 big boxes of relief goods received by the Philippine Embassy, said Mohd Azlan (Alvin) Banadera, Managing Director.
Part of a 110-kilo shipment of medical supplies and multivitamins donated by the International Women's Club, Brunei Darussalam, were brought by Nadzaty Azma Azeez, team owner, Barracudas, when the Brunei basketball team flew to Manila for an Asean basketball match last week, the Philippine Embassy said.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
